Harms of Smoking

The biggest disease causing death in the world is blood and vascular diseases. Incidents such as cancer and heart attacks have always frightened people. Smoking and having a smoking habit increases your chances of having cardiovascular diseases. Many explanations have been made and many articles have been published about the harm caused by smoking. A lot of research has been done on the harms of smoking.

However, it has not been emphasized much that smoking does not harm people directly but indirectly. Smoking does not harm people directly. It harms people due to various diseases and body functions not being fully performed.

At the same time, smoking is an extremely addictive habit. It is easy for individuals who have never smoked before to protect themselves against cigarettes and their harmful effects. However, it will not be easy for an individual who is addicted to cigarettes and consumes at least one pack of cigarettes every day to quit smoking. Getting rid of smoking habit requires high willpower. To quit smoking, you must first be informed about the harms of smoking.

What are the harms of smoking?

Smoking right after a meal is a very strong addiction. However, the harms of smoking for pleasure are quite high. Smoking harms you financially, lowers your living standards and takes away your quality of life. It also makes it easier for you to catch deadly diseases.

  • Smoking during pregnancy causes intellectual disabilities in the baby.
  • Smoking leads to pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory system diseases.
  • Smoking causes the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • Smoking causes heart and vascular diseases.
  • Smoking leads to yellowing of teeth, gum diseases, tooth decay, and tooth loss.
  • Smoking causes digestive system diseases.
  • Smoking causes weak nails and nail yellowing issues.
  • Smoking causes loss of appetite.
  • Smoking leads to vascular blockage, which is a common issue for smokers.
  • Smoking leads to skin, lip, throat, and various types of cancer.
  • Smoking damages brain cells, leading to diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia.
  • Smoking kills brain cells, causing forgetfulness.
  • Smoking negatively affects the sense of smell.

  • Smoking causes early onset of menopause.

At the same time, the sense of smell of individuals who smoke is impaired. They can no longer smell as well as before. Therefore, they cannot be aware of the bad smell that cigarettes create on them and in their mouths. This smell negatively affects their communication with people in their social and private lives. Especially individuals who do not smoke or use cigarettes are very disturbed by the smell of cigarettes.

Smoking is a highly addictive habit. Individuals who have never smoked before should never try or test smoking. The bodies of individuals who have a smoking habit will automatically want to smoke after a meal, before going to bed, or when taking a break from any work.

The main reason for this is that smoking has replaced the naturally produced dopamine secretion that causes people to feel pleasure. That's why the majority of people who smoke and have this habit claim that smoking is good for stress and nervousness. However, these people are wrong. The fact that cigarettes replace the Dopamine chemical in the body reduces the individual's quality of life and turns her/him into a real addict.

How can I get rid of the smoking habit?

First of all, you should not fool yourself. Many individuals claim that they quit smoking by reducing the number of cigarettes they smoke. This is an excuse that people who are addicted to cigarettes often make. Reducing the number of cigarettes smoked does not mean quitting smoking. So don't fool yourself. Quitting smoking requires a high level of willpower. Therefore, you will need to strengthen your willpower. In order to quit smoking, you should not reach for it easily. For example, you can leave your cigarette pack in the car when you come home from work. This way, when you feel the urge to smoke, you can resist it instead of heading to your car. Every time you crave a cigarette, you can eat pumpkin seeds or roasted chickpeas to help you wait out the urge. You can get external support for this matter.
